I don’t know. It all just happened when one of his songs came on in my car. I was by myself and pretty floored by the melody and simplicity of it. Then I found the entire album and heard Solamia Somalia (Woah, I actually first typed “Solamia”). Man, why didn’t I know about him sooner? Weak.
Just to be an ass, I’m going to say he’s way better than k-os.

I just pushed my way through John Mayer’s latest release, Battle Studies twice. Overall thoughts:
- The album is less bluesy than his last effort
- He’s moved back to the earlier college/Hollister wearing stuff
- If anything, this album seems to be a sequel to Heavier Things
- Stand out tracks: Perfectly Lonely; Friends, Lovers or Nothing; and Mayer’s Cream inspired cover of Robert Johnson’s Crossroads
- The album has some great harmonies going on
I give it an overall 7/10.

Here you go, song of the week. This is what happens when you spend too much time in Paul’s car.

I love finding songs that I didn’t realize I had on my iPod. I’m obsessed with this song. I just wish it wasn’t written by Bono and the Edge. Bah. Orbison’s voice is just incredible.
More songs to obsess over, here.

Despite the accusations made upon the man, his music will stand as a testament of how amazing he was. Was. That is so creepy—if I was writing this last week, I would have been using is.
It’s seriously the saddest thing I’ve heard, and probably one of the most important passings of my time. I never cared much for Michael the alleged child molestor, and when you strip all that away, you see how amazing he was. His moves, his voice and his trademarks.
I still can’t believe it.

England has Paul Young. Australia’s equivalent is Daryl Braithwaite. I don’t know why, but his stuff has been in rotation for the past week. He’s got this smooth adult contemporary pop voice, and it’s a huge departure from his days as lead singer of semi-successful 70s band, Sherbert.
He’s a man of mediocre successes, but has some great tunes. Really powerful voice, can’t stress that enough.
I like doing these mini profiles on Australian pop acts. Maybe I’ll do more.
