Yesterday was SWEATPANTS SATURDAY. A day where you do nothing or everything in a hoodie, sweatpants, and ridiculously comfortable and warm socks. I can’t get enough of it. On top of that, I went on a bit of a crazy shopping spree. I dragged Elena to Future Shop and Best Buy and HMV so I could grab the following:
- A shitload of DVDs from the value bin at HMV
- A combo DVD/VCR player
- A new TV
Ended the day with sushi at Issmi. Still not in love with the idea of sushi, but I enjoyed what we ordered last night.
Watching some football now. Anyone else see the Colts scrape past Baltimore?

So Monday is now Complain Mondays and Tuesdays have become Random Tuesdays. Over a couple of drinks last night after work, which were totally random, Josh and I decided that Wednesday should be dubbed Wednesday Plans: The day people start to decide what’s going to happen from Thursday to Sunday.
Thursday is usually Beers & Cheers followed by debauchery in my calendar.
Fridays, I think that’s a stay in with sweat pants night.
Saturday is Nuit Blanche.
And Sunday is a write off.
What are your plans for the rest of the week?

Waking up to a horrendous hangover from the debauchery that was Sneaky Dee’s the night before, I somehow managed to get my act together to see Joanna before she heads off to Aruba and make it to the Toronto Islands for an interesting excursion. We were looking for the annual Caribana festival—there was suppose to be a day of events to be held on the islands, but unknown to us, the festivities had been moved to Ontario Place. We found this part out toward the end of the day.
It didn’t really matter by that point because we had finished our water bottles and just annihilated three jumbo island hot dogs and fries. I won a Patrick toy and we managed to sneak in some rides at Centreville. I think by that point our hangovers had been cured.
Finished the night off with some ciders and ice before* inhaling some shawarma.

*I hate the way beer tends to bloat me and take forever to start a party with. A friend showed me that a pint of ice with cider does the same trick. Only problem is the hangover.

Dad look in check, the three of us headed down to the lakefront for some prime Sunday hangouts. Coincidentally it was also the Harbourfront Centre’s Mexico Beyond Your Expectations festival. This meant cultural music that middle class yuppies would go ga-ga over, but also super cheap amazing food stalls (3 tacos for $9). You can never go wrong with tacos and beer.
Great prices, good weather and the lake—pretty sick. Unfortunately we missed all the free Mexican wrestling matches. They have a different “world route” each week, and I think next week is Canada. Don’t really know what they’re going to do there.

Sunday is a great day to do nothing.
Lazy afternoons are best spent on a couch with friends talking about the debauchary that was Friday and Saturday night.
Drinking home made coffee just like when you’re camping, the aroma fills the kitchen and a radio pipes music through the room.
A song comes on that you forgot all about and you fall in love with it all over again.
I wish I looked as suave as Bryan Ferry.

In my mind, the most satisfying thing in life is being able to cook a meal yourself and to cook it well. There’s something about enjoying food that you’ve laboured over, especially when the meal itself was created through trial and error. I usually stay in on a Friday night; the work week is long, and by the time I get home I don’t really feel like going out. Elena and I usually spend the night indoors eating and watching movies. Last night we decided to make pasta. We made rigatoni with spicy pancetta tomato sauce. It turned out really well, and I’d put a recipe up here but I can’t really remember what we threw into it. Key ingredient was bacon—lots of bacon. I’m not the greatest cook in the world, but if I apply myself, the results are usually good. I guess that’s the risk you have to take; work with what you have and experiment, you’ll only learn from your mistakes. If not I suggest sticking to Mr. Noodles.

Easter is important for a lot of people. They make plans away from their usual social life, and at times it can seem that Easter is more important than Christmas. I was baptized Catholic but apart from the egg hunts around the house from when I was young, we don’t really do much. It might also be because we don’t have any extended or immediate family—it’s just the four of us, and if we were still in Australia, I think we’d all be getting together for a lovo at my cousin’s house.
I love huge meals though; the loud chattering of conversation, a full table and that feeling of tiredness—being food drunk—that comes over you after a great meal. I love sitting around tired eyed but for some reason you can still pick at what’s left on your plate. No matter how tight your belt might seem, there’s always room for an extra nibble of something.
I may not have my family here, and because of that we may not be as festive, but it’s good to know that somewhere, someone has a seat open for me at their table.

I’m not big on sushi; I’ve had it a few times in the past, but it never sits well with me. Sushi is bland, and I guess I just can’t stomach raw food. I need food with flavour and spice and you know, cooked ingredients. I don’t get what the fuss about it is. I promised that I’d go on Saturday night and eat it, so Elena and I went to JunJun on College. To be fair, the restaurant has amazing prices. Two people can dine for almost $40 including drinks and the portions are huge. It’s a bargain place and the wine was only $4 a glass! I chewed through a few pieces of sushi before giving up and realizing that I still wasn’t a fan. I enjoyed the experience though! If you like sushi and better value prices (the cheapest meal was $5 I think) and portions that are huge, then definitely check this place out.
After that we headed to a house party that our friend Fabian was hosting. Fabian’s pretty awesome and he’s from the Caribbean! He’s spending most of his summer back home, so this was the last chance to party at his place for this school year. Stuck around for a little bit but had to jet to see a show at Molly Bloom’s. Michelle’s friend was playing in a band that night. I can’t remember the name of the band, but I left early because I was too drunk. The bar was packed though.
Sunday was spent lounging—nothing beats making sandwiches and watching Disney movies.
