Three years old today! Crazy. This rounds out my entire blogging adventure at, like, almost eight years.

There are some awesome changes being rolled out in the next week or so. I’m re-working how this space can work better for me, as well as define new roles for interaction and engagement. Fun stuff–at least in my head it is.

On that note, listen to this song. It’s been stuck in my head for the better part of the month, and I just can’t help how awesome Tom Jones is in the chorus.

John Mayer – Battle Studies.

I just pushed my way through John Mayer’s latest release, Battle Studies twice. Overall thoughts:

  1. The album is less bluesy than his last effort
  2. He’s moved back to the earlier college/Hollister wearing stuff
  3. If anything, this album seems to be a sequel to Heavier Things
  4. Stand out tracks: Perfectly Lonely; Friends, Lovers or Nothing; and Mayer’s Cream inspired cover of Robert Johnson’s Crossroads
  5. The album has some great harmonies going on

I give it an overall 7/10.

She’s a Mystery to Me (Mystery Girl) – Roy Orbison.

I love finding songs that I didn’t realize I had on my iPod. I’m obsessed with this song. I just wish it wasn’t written by Bono and the Edge. Bah. Orbison’s voice is just incredible.

More songs to obsess over, here.

Billy Talent “III” & Warner Music.

I won’t lie, when Billy Talent released their debut album years and years ago, I liked it quite a bit. I think we all did. Then we grew up and moved on, leaving a new legion of fourteen year olds to carry the torch. If you’re still a fan of the band, or just somehow stumbled upon this post from the caverns of the Internet, then this post is for you.

The band just released their latest self-titled album also known as III. The guys really need to get a little creative on the album naming. The first single, Rusted From the Rain isn’t bad—I’ll admit. It took a little while to grow on me, but you can hear the sounds of men growing older.

To coincide with the release of the new album, Warner Music has released a “widget” for fans to share. Seeking out the “ultimate fan”, users can sign up, share, and vote—the person with most votes, or “ultimate fandom” gets to win a bunch of prizes (I know, I’ve been about prizes a bit this week, but hey, free stuff!).

Along with the chance to win cool stuff, users are given access to a whole range of vids, tracks and interviews—especially in the studio stuff. It’s pretty interesting.

Check it out if you’re up for it.

*River Below is still a sick song.

Ugh, Michael Jackson.

Despite the accusations made upon the man, his music will stand as a testament of how amazing he was. Was. That is so creepy—if I was writing this last week, I would have been using is.

It’s seriously the saddest thing I’ve heard, and probably one of the most important passings of my time. I never cared much for Michael the alleged child molestor, and when you strip all that away, you see how amazing he was. His moves, his voice and his trademarks.

I still can’t believe it.

I love stop-motion videos.

The Baseball Card Movie.

A great, short documentary on collecting baseball cards. With all this thought on collecting things, the movie highlights the realization that collecting baseball cards aren’t for kids anymore.

Animal Collective: My Girls.

I’m not a big fan of Animal Collective. I think it’s mostly because of the hype around them. Their latest album, Merriweather Post Pavilion isn’t bad. I checked it out on a whim. The song My Girls is alright. I think it’s the infectious beat and call and response wail of the vocals that gets me. Looks like synth space rock is making a come back.

Sunday: Friends and Food.

Kaitlyn and Michelle

The purple apartment is famous for their “family dinners”. It’s been a while since they’ve had one; at one point it became a staple of every Thursday night, and after stuffing ourselves with good food, we’d head to the Grasshopper for some karaoke fun. Even though the dinners aren’t as regular, I still manage to get invited over for a meal. It’s great fun and we talk and laugh while cooking, preparing home style meals with recipes learned or handed down over time.

Kaitlyn had just come back from a weekend away in upstate New York, and she cooked an awesome meal of burgers, potatoes and a salad for Michelle and me.

We finished the night sipping tea and making fun of cop dramas on TV. When I got up to leave, both Kaitlyn and Michelle were trying to learn the Hoedown Throwdown from Miley Cyrus.

Yes you can steal these photos, Michelle.
