We all have funny office stories to share. We all have office horror stories to share. You know you can win $5,000 if you share your office story, and it’s voted as the best of the best?
Canadian IT recruitment firm, S.i. Systems Ltd. is running a contest called Clickfest.
Some people click, some people don’t.
Think the office drummer, the loud phone talker, or the office fridge thief. We’re looking for funny moments in the office environment where someone just doesn’t click. Embrace your inner actor and post a video, photo or write a quick story. Share your account of someone that just doesn’t click. If your entry generates the most votes, you win $5,000.
For examples, you can see these Youtube videos here.

Stephen Lewis is a former Canadian diplomat with quite the resume. The former Canadian ambassador to the United Nations was also deputy director of Unicef, and the UN’s special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa. The man knows Africa.
This October (17-25), he’s daring Canadians from all over to do something extraordinary for Africa. He’s daring you to do something funny, healthy, sporty, quirky—anything at all. Pledge to raise a certain amount (any amount at all) and get people to sponsor you. Then, between October 17-25, perform the dare.
You can sponsor other people who are daring to make a difference for AIDS affected families in Africa. Or, you can dare someone. Check out the A Dare to Remember website and see what other people, like musician k-os, are doing.
What’s different about the Stephen Lewis Foundation is that there is no middleman. All funds raised go directly to the families who need it.
Are you up for the challenge? I’ve been dared to ride 10k on a bicycle by the bike enthusiasts at work. There are a multitude of dares you can do, and the possibilities are endless. Raise money and dare yourself to stay away from Facebook for a day or a week. Raise money and dare yourself to eat only vegetables for a week.
Maybe raise money and dare Dwyer to live in his tree house for three days straight. Better yet, get him to clean his room.
Dare Kaitlyn to not drink coffee for a week.
Dare Joanna to update her blog for a week with posts only talking about chicken wings.
Dare Lisa to wear the same outfit for a week straight. (Dwyer, this one is too easy for you).
I’ve tagged a bunch of people who I think might be up for it, and if you are, create a dare profile page here. If you don’t want to perform a dare, sponsor someone who is! Or, dare someone you know!
You can take social media to the next level and take this campaign to new heights. Post to your Facebook, Twitter or blog and alert other people about this initiative.

I don’t even know where to start with this show. I was channel surfing in bed last night when I stumbled upon this little gem off of MTV Canada. Seriously, WTF?! I can’t believe how obscenely retarded this show is.
A camera crew basically follows around this random 16 year old who is just about to pop with her child. You see her “struggle” with school, friends, and whoever the father of the child is suppose to be. Juno was one thing, but this, this is just so wrong.
I can see the network trying to create a show that will help other teenagers deal with pregnancy, but when the girls are missing significant amounts of brain cells and the father is too busy partying—I’m sure that’s the encouragement every girl out there needs. The show is literally an outlet for tweens and teens to think that, “hey, pregnancy is cool! I can be on TV!”—or maybe it’s been made for people like me to revel in two people’s unfortunate accident and poor judgement.
“So how did you tell your parents that you were pregnant?”
“I texted them, LOL!”
“OMG!”
“I knoe.”
When you have dialogue like that, I’m sure the world sleeps better knowing that these people could quite possibly be the leaders of tomorrow. I swear it was like watching another Britney documentary.
“Teen pregnancy is so in right now!”

If you really want to fail at keeping on budget, then go to CiRCA. I don’t know how it happened, but I managed to burn through a lot of money—even when we got in for free! Bell was doing some promotion at the club, and if you had a Bell phone, you and your friend could get in without having to dish out cover. Sweet. Finally Elena found something useful out of her lame Bell plan.
I also brought the Dad look to the club last night. Solid.

Things are about to get busy this week—I’ve got a full work schedule that’s gearing up for some crazy projects, and I start summer school tonight. In between that and my writing, my life is going to be pretty jam packed. Elena and I decided a quick, cheap getaway was in order before things got hectic. We headed to Ottawa to visit some friends and walk about, soaking up the “beauty” of our nation’s capital.
We’re not people who like to spend big. I mean, we do have a tumblr blog that tracks our cheapness. Here are some ways we cut down on costs—and I mean really cut down on costs, but still managed to enjoy a great little holiday:
Book a hotel with a kitchenette.
Hotel rooms can be expensive, and for a two night stay you’re looking at somewhere between $300 to $500 with taxes. Screw that. I did some searching and found the Extended Stay Deluxe, Downtown Ottawa. All rooms have a kitchen and it’s apartment style accomodation. Room was great and had everything we needed for cooking. We managed two nights for around $200.
A room with a kitchen means cheaper eats.
So we got this room with a kitchen. That meant that we wouldn’t have to spend a lot on eating at restaurants. In fact, the only time we ate outside of the hotel was to get a quick dessert after dinner one night. That was probably our biggest splurge…at $20. We bought groceries for the entire weekend; enough for two breakfasts, and fixings for our steak dinner (my dad had steaks he wasn’t going to cook, so we took them along with us). In total we spent around $30 for groceries that lasted all weekend.
We walked everywhere.
This is a given. Our hotel was conveniently located minutes away from all the major spots in downtown Ottawa.
Budget when going out.
We managed to barely spend $40 on drinks when we were out with friends. We bought a case of beer that was good for dinner and hanging about before going out. We still managed to party. Our second day was long and full of walking, so after dinner we opted to stay in and watch a movie I had brought along. We also splurged on a deck of cards. Our last night included drinking wine and playing cards until 2 am.
If you’re driving, make sure parking is decent.
Parking can be a huge drain to your wallet, even for just a weekend stay. I scoured TripAdvisor reviews on the area and hotel to see what other people were saying about parking. The hotel charged $11 a day; the lot around the corner charged $5 a day, but the ticket would run out at 6 am and you’d have to change it; Cooper Street, where the hotel was located, had free parking all weekend. BOOM! Because we left early enough and arrived before any weekend rush, I managed to snag a free spot on Cooper street right in front of the hotel. Take a look at reviews and comments before heading to your destination, especially for little things like this.

I just read online that February 26th will be “Do Over Day” in Canada.
History’s inaugural Do Over Day is Thursday, February 26th, 2009. This is the one time of year when all Canadians can revisit and/or repair the significant moments of their lives.
Canadian’s always have such polite ways of celebrating things.
What would you do over?
