Wednesday Plans – What Are Yours?

So Monday is now Complain Mondays and Tuesdays have become Random Tuesdays. Over a couple of drinks last night after work, which were totally random, Josh and I decided that Wednesday should be dubbed Wednesday Plans: The day people start to decide what’s going to happen from Thursday to Sunday.

Thursday is usually Beers & Cheers followed by debauchery in my calendar.

Fridays, I think that’s a stay in with sweat pants night.

Saturday is Nuit Blanche.

And Sunday is a write off.

What are your plans for the rest of the week?

Complain here.

It’s Monday and there are a ton of things to gripe about.

It’s windy and wet and it generally sucks outside. The sun peeked out through the clouds for probably only a few minutes, and then ran back behind the grossness. My shoes kind of got wet and I’m not wearing socks, so I’m experiencing an awkward, slimy feeling between my toes.

Complain about something, anything, below.

Tim Burton and “9″.

Ok, Tim Burton really only produced the film, and for obvious reasons got better billing on the posters than anyone else. I went into this moving with two things:

- “9″ is an animated film about a post-apocalyptic society starring gingerbread looking potato sack people.

- it has to be a kids movie.

I guess I was completely wrong about that second point. I also had no idea what the movie was really about. It’s retarded. The movie is Burton’s darkness and weirdness mixed in with some pretty nice looking animation. There were a lot of loose ends that didn’t really make any sense, and the whole gingerbread looking people thing was kind of creepy. I’m realizing now that this really isn’t helping anyone who wants to get a better sense of the movie.

Just go see it and decide for yourself. It’s got suspense and great animation and cool dystopian future written all over it.

My god. Go see this movie. It’s not what you’d expect. If you’re into copious amounts of food falling from the sky, like I am, then you need to see this movie. Mr. T plays a cop. See it in IMAX. See it in 3-goddamn-D.

On Revolutionary Road.

It’s been a few months since I finished Revolutionary Road and I finally had a chance to watch the film that was made about it not too long ago. Author Richard Yates did a good job of keeping me engaged throughout the plot, and at some times, he managed to get me in a fit of anger over how some of the characters were acting. Good job. I did feel, though, that the ending was just too easy. It was a cheap shot way of tying things up in the end.

The movie was satisfying. Not great and not bad either. Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet do a good job of being trapped in this unwanted suburban lifestyle, and at the same time, are able to portray the annoying, romantic idealists in the novel.

Both the book and movie have gotten me more interested in drinking whiskey. I don’t know where to start. All I’ve ever drank is some Jack Daniel’s here and there, and Johnnie Walker.

Fall Clothing.

I splurged and bought some new threads to kick off fall:

I needed this trench coat.

I needed this carry bag for work. My backpack was looking nast.

And then I bought 2 huge wool sweaters and a blue, long-sleeve shirt.

This song was so boss. That soundtrack was incredible.

I had to turn off from the Internet after I heard about this. I wasn’t ready for the onslaught of tributes that would pour in and flood my browser. Will we eulogize the guy who created the “Kanye Meme” when he dies one day? Sometimes, the Internet ruins everything.

Stephen Lewis Foundation: A Dare to Remember.

Stephen Lewis is a former Canadian diplomat with quite the resume. The former Canadian ambassador to the United Nations was also deputy director of Unicef, and the UN’s special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa. The man knows Africa.

This October (17-25), he’s daring Canadians from all over to do something extraordinary for Africa. He’s daring you to do something funny, healthy, sporty, quirky—anything at all. Pledge to raise a certain amount (any amount at all) and get people to sponsor you. Then, between October 17-25, perform the dare.

You can sponsor other people who are daring to make a difference for AIDS affected families in Africa. Or, you can dare someone. Check out the A Dare to Remember website and see what other people, like musician k-os, are doing.

What’s different about the Stephen Lewis Foundation is that there is no middleman. All funds raised go directly to the families who need it.

Are you up for the challenge? I’ve been dared to ride 10k on a bicycle by the bike enthusiasts at work. There are a multitude of dares you can do, and the possibilities are endless. Raise money and dare yourself to stay away from Facebook for a day or a week. Raise money and dare yourself to eat only vegetables for a week.

Maybe raise money and dare Dwyer to live in his tree house for three days straight. Better yet, get him to clean his room.

Dare Kaitlyn to not drink coffee for a week.

Dare Joanna to update her blog for a week with posts only talking about chicken wings.

Dare Lisa to wear the same outfit for a week straight. (Dwyer, this one is too easy for you).

I’ve tagged a bunch of people who I think might be up for it, and if you are, create a dare profile page here. If you don’t want to perform a dare, sponsor someone who is! Or, dare someone you know!

You can take social media to the next level and take this campaign to new heights. Post to your Facebook, Twitter or blog and alert other people about this initiative.
